Love Your Savings – Apply for a Property Tax Exemption Today!
Dear Property Owners & Subscribers,
It’s February – the season of love and property tax savings! Did you know that applying for a property tax exemption could save you thousands of dollars?
What is a Property Tax Exemption?
A property tax exemption reduces or eliminates property taxes by lowering a property's assessed value for eligible individuals or organizations, such as homeowners, veterans, and nonprofits, based on qualifications set by state law.
If your primary residence is in California, you may qualify for:
- Homeowners’ Property Tax Exemption
- Disabled Veterans’ Exemption
Nonprofit organizations may also be eligible for various property tax exemptions. To receive the full benefit for the upcoming tax year, applications are due by February 18th (the next business day after February 15th).
Check Your Exemption Status
Use the Assessor’s Parcel Viewer to see if a property is currently receiving an exemption. Some exemptions, like the Homeowners’ and Disabled Veterans’ Exemptions, only require a one-time application, while others, such as Low-Income Disabled Veterans’ and Nonprofit exemptions, must be renewed annually.
