Sacramento County Assessor Announces Homeowners’ Exemption Form Now Available to File Online
SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento County Assessor Christina Wynn is pleased to announce a new, convenient way for eligible homeowners to file for a Homeowners’ Exemption in Sacramento County.
Beginning today, homeowners can complete and submit their Homeowners’ Exemption form online using Docusign. The entire process can now be completed online without an office visit, waiting in line, or mailing in a paper application.
“Making it easier for property owners to access the benefits available to them is an important part of how we serve the public,” said Sacramento County Assessor Christina Wynn. “Providing an online filing option for the Homeowners’ Exemption gives homeowners a simple, convenient way to apply while continuing our efforts to make Assessor services more accessible and efficient.”
This modernization reflects the Assessor’s Office’s commitment to providing equitable, timely, and accurate property tax information while improving the efficiency of services available to Sacramento County property owners.
Online filing is available beginning September 8, 2026.
Questions About Homeowners’ Exemption?
The Homeowners' Exemption provides homeowners with a discount of $7,000 of assessed value resulting in a savings of approximately $70-$80 in property taxes each year. This is a free program; however, a one-time application is required. Wondering if you already receive this benefit? Review your assessment and exemptions using the Assessor’s Parcel Viewer.
To qualify, you must be a property owner, co-owner or purchaser named in a contract of sale and you must occupy your home as your principal place of residence as of January 1 each year or you must occupy the home within 90 days of the completion of new construction or the change in ownership.
