Most Energy-Efficient Home Improvements Won't Increase Your Property Taxes!
Dear Subscriber,
Planning energy-saving home improvements this summer? Good news — most of them won’t increase your property’s assessed value!
Many common upgrades fall under repairs, replacements, or routine maintenance — and are not assessable.
- Examples of non-assessable improvements include:
- New roofing
 - Energy-efficient windows and doors
 - Siding, weatherstripping, and air-sealing
 - Heating and cooling systems
 - Tankless water heaters

 - New roofing

Some solar energy systems may also qualify — but require a Solar Energy System New Construction Exclusion application.
Our office receives notice of building permits and sends a Building Permit Questionnaire for each project. We appreciate your help in completing and returning the questionnaire — your responses help us ensure that these types of non-assessable improvements are properly excluded from your property’s assessment.
Have questions about your project or the questionnaire? We’re happy to help!
